HIS NAME IS JESUS

He is the Light. Walk in His Light & Follow Him (John 12:46 kjv)

I Glorify "Thy Name"

This morning, as I was researching a few of the names of Jesus, in regards to todays letter "N", I came across a name for Him, titled "THY NAME". Thinking on this, I realized that in the Daily Treasures section of my website, there has, to this point, been a daily, lesson, regarding the meanings of but a few of the "names" of Jesus, only to discover one of His names being THY NAME. So today we are going to take a look at THY NAME, and the meanings behind it.

Most likely, daily, we tell Jesus how much we love Him ... how much we appreciate Him, but, do we really consider the importance of His Name? Now, if you recall, when we began this series, I shared with you about a book I have, containing 220 names of Jesus. Thus far, we have gone through some 13 of those 220 names, about half way through (there will be 1 name for each letter of the alphabet, or ... some 26, or so, names). The scripture verse I'm about to share, regarding Jesus being known as "THY NAME", has me considering the magnitude of meanings, behind just a few of His many names. Let's take a look at the verse I am speaking of:

Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for [thou] only [art] holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest (Rev 15:4 KJV).

From this scripture text, I am going to expound on two words ... the words "glorify", and"name". We'll start with "NAME". As we read the meanings of "NAME", let's keep Jesus in mind, applying these meanings to Him.

From the Strong's Concordance, the origional meaning of "NAME", in referrence to "THY NAME" is:

NAME: the name is used for everything which the name covers, everything the thought or feeling of which is aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing, remembering, the name, i.e. for one's rank, authority, interests, pleasure, command, excellences, deeds etc.

When thinking about Jesus, and the meaning His many names address, what kind of thoughts or feelings arise in our hearts, at just the mere mention of His name .. Jesus? Let's consider a brand new bride and bridegroom, deeply in love. At just the mere mention of the name of one, often can cause the heart of the other to do it's little "butterfly flip thing", generating the thoughts and interests of what they're interested in, and too, thoughts of their excellences and their deeds.

Now let's take what I just said, regarding the bride and bridegroom, in love, and apply it to Jesus. Does it cause our hearts to stir, at just hearing the mention of His "NAME". Does even the hearing or remembrance of His name, cause us to glorify what He stands for in His rank, His authority, His interests, His pleasure (what pleases and blesses Him), His commands, His excellence's, and His deeds? Or, does the thought of His name make our thoughts return to "us" and our interests? Does thinking about Him, pull Him to our level, in considering everything He has promised to (and for) "us", or rather, in considering, hearing, or at the mention of His name, do we look to Him for Who HE is? Are our thoughts (and heart) pulled deeper into Him? Does the thought of His name cause us to want what He can give us, or do such thoughts of Him, cause us to "glorify Him"? Now let's look at the word "glorify" according to the Strong's Concordance:

GLORIFY
1) to think, suppose, be of opinion
2) to praise, extol, magnify, celebrate
3) to honour, do honour to, hold in honour
4) to make glorious, adorn with lustre, clothe with splendour
4a) to impart glory to something, render it excellent
4b) to make renowned, render illustrious
4b1) to cause the dignity and worth of some person or thing to become manifest and acknowledged

When reading these meanings regarding "glorifying"... glorifying even His name, one word comes to mind. WOW! Does the thought of His name cause us to think, to praise, extol, magnify, celebrate, hold in honor, make glorious, clothe with splendor, impart glory to, rendering His name excellent, thus causing the dignity and worth of even His name to become manifest and acknowledged? What I read here (and receive in my heart) is, even the very name (or names) of our Lord, ought to cause us to become deeply and greatly stirred, within. Even the thought of His NAME should draw us so close to Him, that all we desire to do is all of what we just read, above, listed in the meanings for gloify. Does this seem extreme to some of us? It may seem so, but ... it is written. In fact, let's read it in the Amplified Bible:

Who shall not reverence and glorify Your name, O Lord [giving You honor and praise in worship]? For You only are holy. All the nations shall come and pay homage and adoration to You, for Your just judgments (Your righteous sentences and deeds) have been made known and displayed (Rev 15:4).

Again, we are to glorify, yes, even reverence His NAME. Oh, I want so to love Him this deeply, to continually, from within my heart, bow at just the thought of Him, at just the thought of His name. The hunger to love Jesus more, should be ever present, and great within us. Would you join me in prayer today, asking the Lord to bring us to such a place ... to a place where He (our Bridegroom), is forever, and greatly present in our minds, and deeply etched on our hearts?

Let's pray:

Sweet Jesus, oh how greatly we desire to see You in such a way ... to see (and experience) You as so great in our lives. Lord, work in our hearts, and bring us to such an intimate place ... to such a place that even at the thought of Your name, we would find our hearts truly "glorifying" You ... even THY NAME, Lord! We can see from this study, it's Your good pleasure to have us this near to Your heart, It says in Your word Lord:

[Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight (Phil 2:13 Amplified Bible).

By Your Holy Spirit, work in our hearts, Lord, that we might truly (for Your good pleasure, satisfaction and delight) glorify, even THY NAME. Bring it to pass we ask, in Your precious Son Jesus' name, Amen.

Be blessed as your heart draws near to Him. In His love ... Marcia.
