Lesson One (Part 2)

So, What's So Important About God's Word?

"GOD'S SPOKEN WORD"

Let's turn to Genesis Chapter One. You'll notice there are several verses referring to "And God Said". Let's read them together: 

Gen.1:3,6,9,11,14,20,24,26,29.

Vs. 3 - "All" of God’s creation came into existence by, or through His spoken word: "

And God Said". "All" that "God said", was completed. Everything God created started with a "spoken" word (read Psalms 33:6). 

Just as God "spoke forth" everything into being, the same applies to our spiritual life. God speaks a life giving word to us (into our spirits), thus bringing forth spiritual life, within. Just as His spoken word brings life to the natural world, His spoken word also brings life to the spirit of man. Life is "spoken" into existence by God (and God said), whether it be within this world, or within the spirit of man.

You see, there is a difference when we sit before God's Word, to read it, in comparison to spiritually "hearing" "God say". Yes, as we read (and we certainly should), we discover His love, His guidance, His promises, etc.... yes, even His very heartbeat, however, when certain words on that bible page we are reading, springs to life, and enters our heart, "and God said" has just become His "spoken" word to us. His life giving word has just been spoken into our spirit, by His Holy Spirit. Yes, it's an "God said" experience, as His life has just been created, or planted within us (such as it was in Genesis, when "God said").

Continuing in Genesis chapter 1, let's look at verse 4, which speaks of "the life of God's word":

Verse 4: God’s word (following it) gives, or promises life. (Also read: Jn.5:24, Jn.8:51, Jn.11:25-26).

John 11:25-26 from the Amplified Bible reads like this:

Remember, from our previous lesson, we covered "Jesus is the Word", and He (the physical Jesus) is not to be separated from the teachings of His word. So, when Jesus speaks about believing in (adhering to, trusting in, relying on, having faith in and cleaving to) Him, He is not speaking of believing only in Him as the physical Jesus, but, we are to believe in (and live by) the Word (Jesus).

(Remember John Chapter 1:1, 14 .. the word became flesh).

Vs. 4-5: The Word is illuminating - Ps.119:105, Ps.119:130.

From time to time, you'll notice me mention the Logos (i.e.Hebrew) word and/or the Rhema (Greek) word. Simply put, the difference is, the Logos word from God's Truth is a word coming from the Hebrew translation (i.e. the Old Testament). A Rhema word, is a word meaning from the Greek translation (New Testament). In other words, as I sit with the Bible in front of me, reading it, the very words of the Bible's pages are the Logos word. When (as I shared earlier) a (or the) words of what I am reading "come to life" as I am reading them, that is Rhema (or living) word.

Logos (Heb.) word (means the word in written form)

Rhema (Grk.) word (means Iiving word ... word of life to you ... His word comes, or becomes "alive")

Just how important are the commandments of God's word, to our lives? Read the following verses:

Ps.19:8 (rejoices the heart; enlightens the eyes)

Prov.6:23 (a lamp; a light; teaches us the necessary reproofs and disciplines, as a way of life). (From the Amplified Bible, below):

For the commandment is a lamp, and the whole teaching [of the law] is light, and reproofs of discipline are the way of life (Amplified Bible Prov 6:23).

Jn.8:12 (shall not walk in darkness, but rather, in light)

The word "Word" in John chpt. 1, according to the original Greek translation from the Strong’s Concordance (#3056) means:

"Divine Expression, i.e. Christ"

Chist is the LIVING WORD ... the ALIVE (or Rhema) WORD!

This teaching should help each of us understand just how important it is to read the Word of God (the Bible), as the Word reveals to us "Jesus". Do we really want to know Him? Do we really desire to know His heartbeat? Because He was in the beginning, with God, and was (and is) the Word made flesh, then to fulfill that desire within us (to know Him) means we must read what's written on the pages of His word (the Bible).

It was Jesus who said:

He is the truth. Let's allow the Logos word to become Rhema word (or revelation knowledge) to us, as we sit at His feet, feasting on His word. He desires to make Himself known to us.

Assignment for next week: read Psalm 119 this week. Take notice, especially of the verse, or verses, that mean the most to you. Allow the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the importance of God’s word, through Psalm 119.  Pray the Holy Spirit give you Wisdom and Understanding.
