Jesus, A Tried "Stone"

Stone. One of His names is "STONE", but actually "stone" in the scripture referrence we are about to look at, has several meanings. Let's take a look at "Isa 28:16", and read about the types of stones in reference to Jesus:

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner [stone], a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. Isa 28:16 (KJV)

And from the Amplified Bible:

Therefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am laying in Zion for a foundation a Stone, a tested Stone, a precious Cornerstone of sure foundation; he who believes (trusts in, relies on, and adheres to that Stone) will not be ashamed or give way or hasten away [in sudden panic]. Isa 28:16 (Amplified Bible).

Jesus, a STONE of foundation:
The Greek meaning of "foundation", from Strong's Concordance is: foundaton of institution or system of truth. Jesus Christ is that very foundation ... the foundation of truth:

For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is [already] laid, which is Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). 1 Cor 3:11 (Amplified Bible).

Jesus, a "tried" STONE:
The Greek meaning of "tried" from Strong's Concordance is: tested.
Tested, Jesus was. One only needs to read the account of His testings given in the Bible. Read: Matt 4:1-11.

Jesus, a precious "corner" STONE:
The Greek meaning of "corner" from Strong's Concordance is: ruler or chief.  Jesus is the chief, or ruler of His foundation (His Church), the foundation of Truth!

"Precious" from Strong's Concordance means:
Costly, excellent, bright, clear, prized, rare, glorious, splendid, highly valued, influential.  Indeed, all of these attributes is He, all of these and so much more!

Now let's take a look at the meanings in the Strong's Concordance regarding the word "STONE" (today's word for Jesus):

1. Stones used to build:
Through Christ, our lives are built to be strong.

2. Precious stones:
He, is precious, and most excellent in our lives ...prized, highly valuable, glorious, splendid, beloved and dear.

3. Stones of fire:
The fire of His Holy Spirit, continuously burns within our hearts, sending us forth in pursuit of Him.

4. Stones containing metal (ore), tool for work or weapon:
We know it is His promise to us, to deliver us out from the hand of the enemy:

And I will make thee unto this people a fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I [am] with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the LORD. And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.Jer 15:20-21 (KJV)

Again, from the Amplified Bible:
And I will make you to this people a fortified, bronze wall; they will fight against you, but they will not prevail over you, for I am with you to save and deliver you, says the Lord. And I will deliver you out of the hands of the wicked, and I will redeem you out of the palms of the terrible and ruthless tyrants. Jer 15:20-21 (Amplified Bible).

[There is] none like unto the God of Jeshurun, [who] rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky. The eternal God [is thy] refuge, and underneath [are] the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy [them]. Deut 33:26-27 (KJV).

5. There were stones of strength, firmness and of solidity:

Is not Christ our very strength?
To the chief Musician, [A Psalm] of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day [that] the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said,> I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. The LORD [is] my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, [and] my high tower. I will call upon the LORD, [who is worthy] to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. Psalm 18:1-3 (KJV).

Has not Jesus promised us solidity?:
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Tim 1:7 (KJV).

From the Amplified Bible:
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. 2 Tim 1:7 (Amplified Bible).

6, Sacred object, as memorial Samuel set up to mark where God helped Israel to defeat the Philistines:
Often, an altar of stones was set up, as a reminder, or a place to remember God's delivering hand, or as in the case below, for the purpose of burnt offerings, for peace offerings, for a place to rejoice before the Lord, and a place to both write and remember His law to them:

And there shalt thou build an altar unto the LORD thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up [any] iron [tool] upon them. Thou shalt build the altar of the LORD thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings thereon unto the LORD thy God: And thou shalt offer peace offerings, and shalt eat there, and rejoice before the LORD thy God. And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly. Deut 27:5-8 (KJV)

All that we have just observed in todays Bible Treasure, regarging Jesus as the tried STONE, shows us He is the very foundation of His people (His Church). As well, He is the keeper, the protector, and the very strength of it! Truly, in this life, we need not live a life of fear, as we have One so mighty and true in our lives, Who promises to keep us in His care.

We so thank You Jesus, the STONE that was tried!  Jesus, help us to remember, to keep You in mind, and the very promises You have kept in our lives ... the many times You've protected us, the many times You've been to us a strength, especially in those times of weakness, also, the many times we've been renewed by the fire of Your Holy Spirit. You are most faithful to us. Help us to remember Lord. Help us to get our eyes off of our difficulties, and our defeats, and look to You in all Your faithfulness towards us. This day, we thank You Lord, for all of Your goodness to us. In Your name we pray Jesus, Amen.

May the faithfulness of the Lord, be upon your heart today.

Be greatly blessed! In Him ... Marcia
