HIS NAME IS JESUS

He is the Light. Walk in His Light & Follow Him (John 12:46 kjv)

Jesus, Thy King

Today, as we are now on the letter "K", we are going to address Jesus as "KING". As KING, we need to look into how our KING (Jesus) presented Himself.  Namely, we need to look at His life of humility, how He walked with a "humble heart". It is said in the Word of God, that, as believers, we are created to be as "kings and priests" unto God ... and, indeed, we have been created to be so (kings and priests), by Jesus, Himself:

And from Jesus Christ, [who is] the faithful witness, [and] the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (Rev 1:5-6 KJV)

So ... in order for us to respond as kings and priests unto Him (our KING), we need to understand His life as "KING". Let's look to His Word:

Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. (Matt. 21:5 KJV).

Who was this One who came sitting on an ass, in meekness (i.e. in gentleness)? I'd like to mention, riding on the ass did "not" represent something degrading, but rather it represented a message of "peace". So, who was this One? The Word says it was "thy" (i.e. our) "KING". Let's take a closer look at the meanings which pertain to our "KING" from the Word of God:

Jesus is: King (of Jews);

And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. (Matt 27:11 KJV)

And Pilate wrote a title, and put [it] on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. (John 19:19 KJV)

Jesus is King (of Israel);

He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. (Matt 27:42 KJV)

Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. (John 1:49 KJV)

We know from these verse descriptions we are not speaking of an "earthly" king, but rather of Jesus. In fact, the word "Rabbi" speaks of "Master". In the following verse, Jesus is referred to as the Lamb of God, and within the same verse, it is proclaimed that He is the KING of kings:

These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him [are] called, and chosen, and faithful. (Rev 17:14 KJV)

In this last verse (Rev 17:14), we see that when Jesus returns, He will return in mighty power, to do battle against ... even to overcome those that war against Him, against His Kingdom , and, against His people. However, until that event takes place, let's take a look at just how Jesus walked in this earth. I'd like to add, I believe He desires and requires that today, we ourselves, do likewise, in following Him.

As KING, Jesus made His entry, riding on an ass ("in meekness" as described in the KJV), He didn't come on the scene announcing from a loud speaker that He (the great KING) had entered the city. Rather, He made His entrance in humility, in meekness. His purpose was to "serve the people", literally to give His life for the people (that includes you and me). He did not come to be served, but to serve. He did not enter into the lives of those who would receive Him, to be "bowed down to", or even to be "looked up to", but rather, to bend to His own knee with a "servants heart", and "wash the feet of His disciples", and to lay His body down, unto death, as a sacrifice for you and me. So what then is He saying to us, who are called to be kings and priests? Well, first of all, we were not created to be on"display" as kings and priests to the world. We were not created that man should bow before us, as though we ourself were God, deserving such honor.  No!  Rather, we were created (or made, as seen in Rev 1:5-6) to be "God's" kings and priests, meaning we are called to bow our hearts and lives before Him, and serve Him.  As Jesus served the Father, we are to follow in His footsteps, and do the same. In serving God, we are called to serve one another, just as Jesus served. As He gave His life, we also must do so, serving one another, just as was instructed, by Jesus Himself:

Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for [so] I am. If I then, [your] Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. (John 13:13-17 KJV)

Jesus, known as King of the Jews, and King of Israel, went to the Cross. Yes, He was beaten, spit upon, and hated by man (for doing only good). Now, do you suppose He did all of that so we could live like Kings (according to our perception of a king)? Did Jesus go to the Cross for us, so that we can live the high life, so that we can be looked up to ... so that mankind can boast of our greatness? I think not. In fact, I "know not"!  Rather, Jesus calls us to live, and serve, from a heart that walks in the same love and humility, as His.  Yes, we are called to serve, not to be served. Let me back this up, by His Word:

Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses, nor scrip for [your] journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat. (Matt 10:8-10 KJV).

The disciple is not above [his] master, nor the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. (Matt 10:24-25a KJV)

He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. (Matt 10:39 KJV)

Father, I pray You help us lose ourselves in You, and that we would be released from making life about "ourselves", but rather that our lives would love, care about, and count for the sake of You, and of others. May we walk with a humble heart ... a servants heart, as You did Jesus, reaching out and serving those around us, in need. Thank You, our dear KING, for all that You've done in our hearts and lives. I pray Lord, that we would be the very kind of kings and priests unto You, that You so desire us to be. I pray this in Jesus name, Amen.

May the King of kings lead and guide you, as you "follow" Him.

His love and blessings upon you ... Marcia.
